Cesc Fabregas, a former Barcelona midfielder, has fueled speculation about Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta's anticipated transfer to Barcelona by claiming that the deal is 'nearly done'.

"They're claiming it's almost done from Azpilicueta to Barça," the 34-year-old told Gerard Romero on his Twitch account. Barcelona are hoping to sign Azpilicueta on a free transfer in the summer, since his current Chelsea contract expires at the end of the season. Currently, the Blues are hesitant to lose their captain because they rely on him for the 2022/23 football season. However, this is where the issue arises. The Blues are only willing to offer their captain a one-year contract with an option for a second season, as is their stance with players over 30 years old. Azpilicueta, on the other hand, wants a long-term contract, which makes it difficult for Chelsea to reach an agreement.

While Chelsea has already submitted its half of the agreement, there has been no genuine communication between the two parties since January. Barcelona is trying to make an impact here.

Catalan management believes the 32-year-old veteran has plenty of gas left in him and is willing to talk to him about extending his contract. However, as of today, the player has expressed his unwillingness to go and has requested face-to-face talks with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia in order to resolve all of his future difficulties. Meanwhile, Fabregas spoke about Andreas Christensen, another Chelsea defender who has been linked with a move to Barcelona. Christensen's current contract, like that of his captain, expires at the end of the season, and no word on whether it will be renewed. Fabregas encouraged the Denmark defender to shed his good-guy reputation if he wants to progress as a defender.

"Christensen has been connected with Barça, and I can assure you that he is a fantastic player." He is quick, strong, good with the ball, athletic, and knows how to position himself. "He was a youngster practising with the first team when I first arrived at Chelsea, and I was already surprised," Fabregas stated.

‘’The one thing I would encourage Christensen to work on is that he can be a little too nice at times." You know, he needs to be more of a jerk. I see it in Eric (Garca) as well. He continued, "They're good men, and you can't be like that in football these days."
